Herbert Gilles
Herbert Al Gilles (December 8th 1845 - February 13rd 1935) was a diplomat and sinologist britannique.
It modified the romanisation of Chinese developed by Thomas Wade, which produced the system Lagging-Gilles, very much used before the arrival of the Hanyu Pinyin in the Fifties, mainly in the Anglo-Saxon world.
