Herb Alpert

Herb Alpert (born the March 31st 1935 with Los Angeles, California), Trumpet player, was the leader of a latino group called Tijuana Brass. It is also an important figure of the industry of the disc (it has of A&M Records).

Beginnings of career

It begins the courses of trumpet at the eight years age, and as of adolescence, it plays in balls. After its studies with the Fairfax High School in 1955, it leaves to the army, and frequently plays at the time of military ceremonies. After its service, it resumes its studies with the USC (University off Southern California), within which it belongs to the brass band.
Il begins its career at RCA under the name of Dore Alpert. It also produces the hit Dante & the Evergreens Alley Oop .
En 1962, it founds with its partner Jerry Moss the label A&M Records.

The years Tijuana Arm

Little time after the creation of the label A&M Records, Alpert forms a latino group, Tijuana Brass. In 1962, Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass Orchestrated leave their first album, The Lonely Bull . It is besides the success of Tijuana Brass which popularizes the latino-pop music, even if it is amusing to note that none the members of the group was really Hispanic. Alpert said besides that its group consisted of " three Pastramis, two Bagels, and a cheese américain" : John Pisano (electric guitar); Lou Pagani (piano); Nick Ceroli (battery); Stalemate Senatore (low); Tonni Kalash (trumpette); Herb Alpert (trumpette and voice); Bob Edmondson (trombone).
C' is in 1965 that the group reaches its apogee, with the album Going Places , from where the hits Tijuana Taxi will result, Spanish Flea , Third Man Theme , and Zorba the Greek .
En 1967, the group also plays on the Royal original soundtrack of the James Bond Casino , written by Burt Bacharach. Herb Alpert received with its group Tijuana Brass six Grammy Awards. In 1996, it enters the Livre Guinness of the records to be the only artist simultaneously to classify five albums in signal 20 of the best sales to the the United States.

After Tijuana Arm

Alpert dissolves the group in 1969, but brings out nevertheless an album in 1971. In 1974, Alpert reforms a group, with the old ones of Tijuana Brass and new musicians, under the name of TJB, with which it leaves two albums. Under its label A&M Records, it produces many artists, like the The Carpenters or Janet Jackson.

Today

Herb Alpert is devoted today to the Peinture expressionnist, and the production of parts with Broadway, like Angels in America , which obtained a Tony Award.
En 2000, it repurchases the rights of its songs to Universal Music, which repurchased A&M, and begins with remasteriser its discs, published now by the label Shout! Factory.
