Henryk Mikołaj Górecki (pronunciation: ), born the December 6th 1933 with Czernica in the south of the Poland, is a Compositeur Polish of Modern music.
Biography
Górecki started with truly studying the music only starting from the middle of the years 1950 with the higher Academy of Katowice near B. Szabelski. The type-setter will finish his studies with Paris with the beginning of the year 1960, where it will on the occasion to hear Anton Webern, Olivier Messiaen and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Consequently, it will pass the majority of its time to Poland, to teach the music and especially to compose a work deeply marked by the culture and the heart of its country, although extremely avant-gardist.In spite of its international recognition, Górecki remains turned towards its country. Adrian Thomas: “The musical past of Poland, its Church and its traditional culture are the rock inébranlable on which its identity, its authentic heritage, like those of its country, are founded. ”
Górecki is married with the pianist Jadwiga Ruranska, it is the father of two children: his/her Anna daughter is pianist and her son Mikolaj type-setter.
Style
The music of Górecki covers a broad variety of styles, but it tends to being harmonically very simple. Its first works approach the Sérialisme to Pierre Boulez and others, but thereafter it will be more often brought closer to the Minimalisme. Following the example Arvo Pärt, with which it is sometimes compared, its music often reflects its catholic faith (for example, the Miserere opus 44, part for chorus of 1981).Its most known work until now is its Symphonie nº3 for orchestra and soprano, opus 36 (1976), known as of the plaintive songs . It is made up of three movements. The song of the first movement, lento - sostenuto tranquillo my cantabile , is a lamentation of the 15th century, the second movement, lento E largo - tranquillissimo , sings inscriptions found on the wall of a prison of the Gestapo to Zakopane, and the third movement, lento - cantabile-semplice , takes again a traditional song. All length, the music is slow and contemplative with the first movement taking the form of a gun for cords of more than half of the total duration of work. This one generally extends over approximately 50 minutes.
Relatively little known in Occident before, it is the unexpected success of the recording of the Third Symphony by the London Sinfonietta, directed by David Zinman and with Dawn Upshaw (soprano), and distributed by the label Elektra Nonesuch (Warner) in 1992 which ensured the notoriety of Henryk Górecki near a public which exceeds that of the music lovers contemporary.
For example the headlight group of the Post-rock'n'roll Godspeed You! Black Emperor used a long time like titrates alternate of its piece Moya the name of the type-setter: the sequence of the agreements is similar there to the first movement of the third symphony.
