Henry Nicholas Ridley

Henry Nicholas Ridley is a British Botaniste , born the December 10th 1855 with West Harling in the Norfolk and dead the October 24th 1956 with Kew.

It obtains its Bachelor off Arts with Oxford. He off becomes member of the Linnean Society London in 1881 and of the Royal Society in 1907. He works as assistant at the department of botany of 1880 with 1888 of the British Museum. He takes part in an scientific exhibition with Fernando de Noronha in 1887. He directs the Botanical garden of Singapore of 1888 to 1911. He contributes to introduce the culture of the rubber in Malaysia. It is interested particularly in the relations between the animals and the plants. Rudolf Schlechter (1872-1925) dedicates to him in 1913 the Ridleyella of Orchidaceae and Carl Ernst Otto Kuntze (1843-1907) in 1891 the Ridleyinda of Sapotaceae. It receives the Médaille linnéenne in 1950.
