Henry Nicholas Bolander
Henry Nicholas Bolander is a American Botaniste of origin German E, born in 1831 with Schleuchtern and died in 1897.
He emigrates at 15 years with the the United States. According to the encouragements of an uncle, it makes religious studies and is ordered priest of the church Lutheran in the Ohio. In 1851, it teaches German and starts to study botany thanks to the influence of a neighbor, Charles Léo Lesquereux (1806-1889).
Its health deteriorates and, according to the councils of its doctor, it settles in California in 1861. Bolander works for the California Geological Survey and it succeeds William Henry Brewer (1828-1910) as botanist of the State of California. It specialist on the Herbaceous S. In 1871, it gives up botany for pedagogy. He is then elected with the California Superintendent off Public Instruction, a function which he occupies until December 1875.
In 1878, it makes many voyages in Central America and South, in South Africa, in Madagascar and in Europe. It settles with Portland in 1883 and joins again with teaching.
