Henry Newell Martin

Henry Newell Martin is a British biologist , born on July 1st 1848 with Newry, in the Comté of Down and died in 1893.

It is the elder one of a phratry of twelve children. His/her father was priest before becoming schoolmaster. He makes his studies with the Université of London and the Christ' S College of the Université of Cambridge. Martin becomes apprentice near a doctor of London while continuing his studies. He studies in particular near Francis Maitland Balfour (1851-1882) and of Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) of which he will be the assistant. He obtains, in London, his Bachelor off Sciences and his Medical Doctorate .

He becomes, in 1876, the first professor of Physiologie of the Université Johns Hopkins with the the United States. It is interested in particular in the influence of the temperature and other subjects of Physiologie. It Marie, in 1879, with the widow of an officer of the confederated army, Mrs Pegram. He resigns of his station in 1893, one year after the death of his wife. He turns over then in Great Britain He becomes member of the Royal Society in 1885.
