Henry Morgentaler

Henry Morgentaler , M.D., LL.D. (h.c.) (March 19th 1923 with Łódź, Poland -) is a Canadian Médecin . In this country, it is especially known like practitioner the abortion and activist Pro-choice of long time.

Biography

Morgentaler is surviving Holocauste. After having survived the concentration camp of Auschwitz, it accepts a grant of the the United Nations offered to the Jewish survivors. He studies then medicine in Germany.

After its studies, he refuses to go in Israel due policy. He and his wife leave the Europe in 1950 and go to the Canada, where it practices medicine with Montreal. He works as general doctor during almost twenty years, until its opinions on the Avortement create conflicts with the others. The October 19th 1967, it addresses at a committee Gouvernement of Canada and states there that the expectant mothers have the right to have sedentary abortions.

In 1969, it gives up family medicine and openly starts to practice illegal abortions. Shortly after 1970, it is stopped with Quebec after having practiced one of them. In 1972, it is presented in the form of independent to the elections in Saint-Denis, finishing fourth with: 1509 votes. Later in 1973, it says to have practiced: 5000 illegal abortions. He is discharged by a jury in an legal affair, but the payment is reversed by five judges of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in 1974. He is imprisoned before calling judgment of it and being thereafter again discharged.

Morgentaler is again shown in 1983 in Ontario. He is discharged by a jury, but the verdict is reversed by the Court of Appeal of Ontario. The judgment is sent to the Supreme court of Canada. Morgentaler is once again discharged. This time, the Supreme court declares unconstitutional the law under which it was marked. The judgment will name Morgentaler and Al C. Its Majesty the Queen of 1988 (1 S.C.R. 30). This decision removed all the regulatory restrictions on the Avortement in Canada.

In 1992, a bomb explodes with its private clinic of the Rue Harbord with Toronto. Morgentaler is not physically wounded. In 1993, it gains a new cause before the Supreme court, R.C. Morgentaler , this time against the provincial regulation on the abortion.

Since the beginning of XXIe century, Morgentaler works to open two private clinics of abortion in the Arctique Canadian, so that the women living over there do not have to travel of long distance to be able to be made fall through.
