Henry Marshall Tory

Henry Marshall Tory, FRSC (January 11th 1864 - February 6th 1947), Canadian mathematician , founder of the University of the Colombia-British, the University of Alberta, the Laboratories of the National council of research, the University Carleton. It ensured the creation of the Médaille Henry Marshall Tory in 1941 and bequeathed funds to the Company at the time of its death in 1947 to finance it.

Born in a farm close to Guysborough in Nova Scotia, it obtains a Bachelor off Arts of the Université McGill in 1890. He studies then the Théologie and obtains off a Bachelor Divinity (License in theology) of the Wesleyan College affiliated in McGill. He spends the two years following to preach in a church. In 1893, he becomes professor attending of Mathématiques McGill and obtains a Master off Arts in this branch in 1896, then a science Doctor in 1903 and is then promoted professor associated with mathematics.

In 1906, it takes part in the foundation of the McGill University of the Colombia-British who will become the Université of the Colombia-British in 1915. From 1908 to 1929, he will be the first president of the University of Alberta. June 1st 1928, he becomes the first president of the Laboratories of the National council of research to Ottawa. From 1942 until its death in 1947, he will be the first president of the Carleton College (which will be called later Université Carleton).

Of 1939 with 1940, he was president of the royal Ociété of Canada.

In 1893, it married Annie Gertrude Frost. They did not have a child.
