Henry Kellett

Sir Henry Kellett is a British naval officer , born the November 2nd 1806 with Clonabody and dead on March 1st 1875 in China.

It enters the British navy at the 14 years age and then takes part in a mission of research on the American coasts of 1835 until the beginning of the year 1840, mission led by the admiral Frederick William Beechey (1796-1856) and Sir Edward Belcher (1799-1877). It continues this work of 1845 with 1848 when it is charged to find Sir John Franklin (1786-1847), disappeared during an exploration of north of the America. He discovers the island of Herald (today known under the name of island Wrangel) in 1849. In 1852, it orders the Resolute and carries help to Robert McClure (1807-1873) to the research of the passage of the North-West and whose vessel, Investigator , are prisionnier of the ices. He becomes rear-admiral in 1854, admiral in load of Malta in 1864 and ordering naval base of China in 1869.
