Henry James Pye
Henry James Pye , born the February 20th 1745 with London, dead the August 11th 1813 To be fucked, in the Middlesex, is an English poet. Pye was Poète prize winner of 1790 with his death and the first to receive wages fixes of 27 £.
Life
Pye studies with the Magdalen College of Oxford. His/her father, an owner of the Berkshire, dies in 1766, leaving him for any heritage a debt of 50.000 books, that the fire of its house with Great Faringdon did not arrange. In 1784, it is elected appointed Berkshire with the House of Commons. It is obliged to sell the paternal field and withdraws Parliament in 1790, becoming magistrate of police force to Westminster. Although it has neither poetic feeling nor particular formation, it with the ambition to be recognized like poet and publishes several volumes of worms.
Of all the works which he wrote, its Résumé of the fontions of the district court between the sessions (1808) is worthiest of interest. It is named poet prize winner in 1790, perhaps thanks to its support faithful to William Pitt the Young person with the House of Commons. This nomination was looked like ridiculous, and its odes of birthday were a continual source of contempt. The British historian of the 20th century Lord Blake said of Pye that he was “the worst poet prize winner in the English history, except perhaps for Alfred Austin. ” In 1814, the successor of Pye, Robert Southey, wrote: “I had rhyme as resolutely and poorly as if my name had been Henry James Pye. ”
As prosator, Pye is the author of comments and summaries full with imagination. Its Comment on the commentators of Shakespeare , attached to its translation of the Poetic , comprises many interesting elements. A man who, born in 1745, can write: “Sir Charles Grandison (main character of the novel éponyme of Samuel Richardson) is much less natural than Caliban (character of the Storm of Shakespeare)” is perhaps a poor poet, but certainly not an imbecile.
