Synopsis
Algeria, May 1859. Administrator of the bank Borough-Thibourg, in High Kabylie, Henry Dunant must face the revolt of colonists famished by a chronic dryness. The young man, resulting from the Genevese upper middle class, less is opened by it with the social questions, revolted by the living conditions of the natives and of pied-noir, not decided to relieve their sorrow while working with the construction of a stopping. For this purpose, it will have to plead its cause in front of Napoleon III. On the way towards Paris, Henry makes stopover in Switzerland in the family residence where he learns the nearest marriage from his Daniel older brother with Léonie Borough-Thibourg, the girl of her employer. At the time of a festival given to this occasion, Dunant crumbles, victim of a crisis of paludism. It is looked after by his grandfather doctor, Hubert, and by the assistant of this last, Cécile, whom it knew child and who became one charming young woman. Convalescent, Henry receives the visit of his friend the journalist Samuel Lowenthal, who teaches him that the emperor of the French is not with Tileries, but on the Italian battle fields, where it fights the troops of François-Joseph Ier of Austria…
