Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (May 22nd 1859 - July 7th 1930) was a Scottish writer , famous for its novels putting in scene the detective Sherlock Holmes, considered as a major innovation of the Detective novel. This prolific writer also worked in the field of the Science-fiction, of the historical novel, the plays and the Poésie.

Biography

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born with Edinburgh and died in Sussex close to London. The Doyle family is an large family and catholic, since the Arthur young person will have nine brothers and sisters. His/her father is an obscure civil servant, who dies alcoholic. His/her mother, of Irish origin , goes down from the Plantagenêt. His/her parents made it raise among Jesuits of Stonyhurst.

After primary and secondary studies in institutions Catholic S, it becomes Agnostique. Of 1875 with 1881, it studies medicine with the University of Edinburgh then exerts some time, but without notable success, the profession of Médecin. The absence of customers enables him to be devoted to the writing. It publishes its first writings in 1879, but it is in November 1887 which Sherlock Holmes appears for the first time, in a study in red , published in the Beeton' S Christmas Annual . It quickly gives up medicine to be devoted only to the writing.

His/her Constance sister marries in 1893, Ernest William Hornung, creator of Raids, gentleman burglar.

He also has a political activity and writes various work, including one Pamphlet: the war in South Africa: its causes and its organization ( The War in South Africa: Its Causes and Conduct ). Starting from 1918, it is devoted especially to the Spiritisme and undertakes a lecture tour, while writing various works, of which the new revelation (1918), in which it claims to show survival after death and the possibility of coming into contact with beyond. Towards 1922, it is victim of famous the Canular Fées of Cottingley, assembled by two Britanniques teenagers.

Whereas one knows especially Conan Doyle for the character of Sherlock Holmes, it is with a writer as prolific as polygraph as we deal. Historical accounts (like the white Company ), works of Science fiction (like the World Lost ( The Lost World ) and other adventures of the Professor Challenger), novels but also books on the Paranormal appear in its bibliography. One owes him more than fifty books and a considerable number of news.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle dies of a Heart attack the July 7th 1930, rich person and famous. Irony of fate, its historical work, to which it attached the greattest importance, today is almost forgotten. On the other hand, its character Sherlock Holmes, whom he regarded as potboilers, is universally famous today.
