Henry Becque

Henry-François Becque , known as Henry Becque is a Dramaturge French (Paris April 28th 1837 - April 12th 1899). It is especially known for a comedy Parisian the (1885), and a realistic drama squeaking the Corbels (1882).

Biography

Becque occupied of many employment before succeeding with the theater: he was successively employee with the Compagnie of the railroads of North, with the chancellery of the Legion of honor and in a stockbroker. Its first work is a booklet of opera, Sardanapale , in 1867. This imitation in 3 acts of the Sardanapale of Lord Byron, put in music by Victorin Joncières, was presented to the Opera house with a certain success.

Becque then turned to the light comedy with the Prodigal son (1868), then completely changed style with the social drama Michel Pauper in 1870 (the name of the character means poor Latin ). It publishes then poetry ( Sonnets melancholic persons , 1887) and its memories in 1895, under the title Souvenirs of a dramatic author . It leaves an unfinished part, Polichinelles .
