Henri of the Tower of Auvergne, duke of Bubble

Henri of the Tower of Auvergne Viscount of Turenne, Duc of Bubble was born with the castle from Joze in Auvergne, the September 28th 1555. He dies with Sedan, the March 25th 1623

Biography

Its family goes down from old the dukes of Aquitaine. He is the son of François III Viscount of Turenne (Corrèze) and of Eléonore, oldest daughter of the constable Anne de Montmorency. His/her mother died in 1556 and his/her father was killed the following year at the time of the battles of Saint-Quentin, his grandfather is also made prisoner at the time of this battle.

Orphan at the two years age, the king Henri II which was his godfather made name a curator to deal with his goods, it is sent to the Court at the ten years age and is attached to François d' Alençon. It is with the seat of the La Rochelle in 1573. Later, at the time of the Fifth war of religion (1575), the Valley sends it using the huguenots area of Montauban: it is its first command of an army and it drives out the royal troops which prevented harvests and the grape harvest. It converts with the Calvinisme towards 1576 and becomes general lieutenant of the High-Languedoc.

In 1581, after having accompanied François d' Alençon, duke of Anjou to the Netherlands, he becomes first gentleman of Henri de Navarre and is distinguished by seeking reinforcements against the Ligue in 1590. With the support of Henri IV, he marries Charlotte of Marck in 1591, single heiress of the Duché of Bubble and the Principauté of Sedan.

Marshal of France in 1592, it is very close to Henri IV after his abjuration what enables him to inherit his wife in 1594. It is used in the military campaigns until pacification as 1597 - 1598.   • Frederic-Maurice of the Tower of Auvergne, born in Sedan in 1605, died in Pontoise in 1652.
  • Elisabeth-Charlotte, born in Sedan in 1607, wife the Count de Duras in 1624. Their children are Jacques-Henri de Durfort and Guy Aldonce de Durfort de Lorges, Marie de Durfort.
  • Henriette-Catherine, born in Sedan in 1609, wife the Marquis Amaury Goyon of Moussaye, count of Quintin in 1629. Their son Henri Goyon of Moussaye is governor of Stenay.
  • Turenne, born in Sedan in 1611, died in 1675.
  • Charlotte, born about 1613?
