Henri de Gondi, duke of Retz was born in 1590 from Charles de Gondi, duke of Retz and Antoinette (1574 † April 25th 1618), lady of Castle-Gonthier (girl of Léonor de Longueville). He became duke of Retz to dead of his father in 1596. He marries Jeanne de Beaupreau, of which he will have two girls.
Participant of the Battle of the Bridge-of-C of with dimensions of Marie de Médicis, it made defection, involving with him his 1.500 men; the army amputated by a third of its men cannot resist the attack of the royal troops.
It will be dislocated of its title of duke in favor of his son-in-law Pierre de Joigny, in 1634. He dies the August 12th 1659.
Of its union with Jeanne, duchess of Beaupréau and countess of Chemillé († 1620) (girl of Guy IV of Scépeaux and count de Chemillé and duke of Beaupréau, killed in 1597), it will have two girls:
- : Catherine († September 18th 1677),
- :: married in August 1633 with Pierre count de Joigny († 1676),
- : Marguerite (April 18th 1615 † May 31st 1670), duchess of Beaupréau and countess of Chemillé,
- :: married in 1645 with Louis de Cossé of Brissac (1625 † 1661).
