Henri de Dion

The count Henri de Dion , born with Montfort Amaury the December 23rd 1828, died in Paris the April 13rd 1878, wire of Louis-François, second of the name, soldier.

Inventor of the firm metal without Tie-beam in the construction industries.

Studies in Switzerland, then with the central school of Arts and Manufactures of 1848 to 1851.

Collaborator of Eugene Flachat for the construction of the bridge of Langon and the restoration of the cathedral of Bayeux in 1854 with his/her brother Joseph-Louis-Adolphe (what made name it chevalier of the Legion of Honor)

It built several iron bridges in Spain and a station in Madrid (tired Delicias) and a sugar refinery with the Guadeloupe (1862).

Specialized in the resistance of materials, it directed the academy of Arts and Métiers and occupied the pulpit of Stability of constructions at the central school of architecture. It had as a pupil Gustave Eiffel.

It returned to France in 1870, at the time of the declaration of war, to take part in the defense of the country. It built fear them of Champigny under enemy fire, which made appoint it Officer of the Legion of Honor.

President of the company of the civil engineers in 1877.

It is responsible for the steel constructions to the World Fair of Paris of 1878, but dies before to have finished. Part of the buildings of the gallery of the machines will be rebuilt with Meudon, to be used as hangar with Dirigeable S in 1880 Hangar Y, then of museum of aviation (it is degraded currently too much to be used for anything).

Another part is transferred to Belfort, to be used as workshop at the company Dollfus-Mieg.

Married to Miss Vaillant of Chatelet.
