Henri de Chabot

Henri de Chabot (born about 1615, † 1655) is noble French of the 17th century.

Life

Henri de Chabot, great-grandson of the baron of Jarnac (initiating of famous the boot known as Blow of Jarnac), catholic gentleman, founded the branch of the Rohan-Chub by marrying Marguerite de Rohan (1617-1684), only surviving of the nine children of Henri II, duke of Rohan, prince de Léon.

The applicants of Marguerite were numerous, which can be explained by what in writing Saint-Simon: " the largest heiress who was in the kingdom ". However, the young lady made a marriage of inclination: although huguenote, it stopped its choice on Henri de Chabot, lord of Jarnac and Apremont, professing the religion Catholique. The king allowed this union (celebrated in 1645) the condition which the children would be high in the Catholic religion.

In spite of the opposition of her Rohan cousins of the branch junior (most famous), Marguerite obtained from the king that the children of the couple would take the name of Rohan-Chub.

On his side, Henri de Chabot was not injured: the titles and possessions of Henri de Rohan passed indeed in the Maison of Chub. The title of Duke of Rohan and Pair of France was recreated for him, it became also prince of Leon, count of Porhoët and Lorges, marquis of Blain and Garnache, baron of Mouchamps, lord of Héric and Fresnay (ground in Plessé), first baron of the nobility and president-born of the States of Brittany. It accepted moreover the government of Anjou. Taken in the party of the Critical , it obstinate step and at the end of February 1652 returns Angers to the troops of the king.

The two husbands lived Paris, in their hotel of the street of the Temple, where Henri de Chabot dies in 1655.
