Henri de Bernières

Henri de Bernières (1635-1700) is a known Canadian priest to have been the first priest of Quebec.

Born with Caen in Normandy in France, in the year 1635, of Pierre de Bernières, baron of Acqueville, treasurer of the king in Caen, and Madeleine the Breton one, it made its studies with Caen and was ordered in Quebec, by Mgr Laval, on March 13rd, 1660.

In Quebec (1660-1700), he is the priest of the cathedral of 1660 with 1687, first superior of the seminar (1665-1672, 1673-1683, 1685-1688, 1693-1698), large-vicar of the bishop (… -1693), higher ecclesiastic of the Ursulines (….- 1683), of the Sisters of the Hospital (… -1683), canon of the cathedral (1684-1700) and senior of the Chapter (1684-1700).

It went on a journey in France in 1672-1673. He died in Quebec of the continuations of a Rhume, on December 4th, 1700. Its biography was written by Auguste Gosselin in 1896.
