Henri Saddler
Henri Sellier (Bourges 1883 - 1943) was a politician French. He is Maire of Suresnes during 22 years, of 1919 with 1941.
Biography
Senator of the the Seine of 1936 to 1940, Minister for the Public health under the government of Popular front, Mayor of Suresnes, it evolves/moves during his political career of a revolutionary Socialisme with a more pragmatic socialism.Its great cause is the improvement of the habitat of the underprivileged populations. Its principal thesis goes back to 1921: it publishes the Housing shortage and the public intervention as regards popular habitat , then becomes the founder of French Association for town planning.
Administrator in 1916, then president of the Regional office of the Dwellings at a cheap rate of the Seine , his work remains in the history, with the creation of the garden cities, residential centres of attraction established according to the job market. The garden cities constitute urban units in which one gathers groups of individuals with their family in order to create of all parts a city. They have as a function to regenerate the urban fabric :
- “ social town planning must organize a better installation of humanity, towards a level of light, joy and of health, a better economic output because there is urgency to defend the race in all the fields against the certainty of degeneration and destruction that the lamentable statistics of the birthrate, illness, death, let appear: 18% of the loss of the national revenue are due to the disease ” (Henri Sellier)
During the Inter-war period, Sellier is at the origin of eleven garden cities created around Paris.
Relieved on May 20th, 1941 of its functions of mayor of Suresnes by the admiral Darlan for " hostility with the work of restoration nationale" , he is imprisoned in Compiegne from June 22nd to July 17th, 1941. He died out on November 24th, 1943.
Today, the principal boulevard of Suresnes bears its name.
