Henri Martin (historian)

Henri Martin (February 20th 1810 with Saint-Quentin - December 14th 1883 with Paris in the district of Passy) is a French historian and publicity agent.
In 1848, Carnot, Minister temporary for the State education, charges Henri Martin with teaching the modern history with the Sorbonne. Taking into account the events of the time, it fulfills this function only for six months.
He is mayor of the XVI {{E}} district of Paris in 1870 and of 1880 with 1883. He is elected Député of Paris in 1871 then Senator of the Aisne in 1876. He is elected member of political morals the Academy of Science and in 1871 and the French Academy in 1878.
He is at the origin of the bill to found on July 14th in national festival, and proclaims in front of the Parliament a discoursdans this direction on June 29th, 1880; marking on July 14th, 1789 like a symbol military, minor, but not less important, French revolution, and on July 14th, 1790 like the first day of glory of the French Nation, celebrated on the Champ de Mars as through all France.
A Parisian avenue of XVIe district bears its name.
