Henri Maccheroni
Henri Maccheroni is painter, photographer, French engraver born in 1932 with Nice.
Henri Maccheroni works regularly with writers for cross works (Michel Butor, Raymond Jean, Bernard Christmas, Bernard Vargaftig, Claude Louis-Combet.
In the Sixties, Henri Maccheroni painted of large post-surrealist fabrics. Working per series (unfinished Worlds, the Night ones…), it explores the myths of Western painting: Eros, Thanatos, Crucifixion, the City and painting itself like base of an esthetic writing.
As from 1968, photography takes an important place in its work. Here still, the approach in “series” dominates (2 000 photographs of the sex of a woman, Cranium-Vanities, Grandes archaeological Continuations…). Photography mingles with many joinings and cuttings (Manhattan-gray). Henri Maccheroni also practices engraving (etching, dry, manner-black point).
During the Seventies, it takes part in avênement of “socio-critical” art (the Cupboard with the bottles, Cadeau for the partisans of the capital punishment…).
In 1982, with Michel Bittern, it founds the National center of contemporary art (Arson Villa) to Nice.
Hundred twenty books mark out its course of painter, photographer and engraver. They testify to its many collaborations with his/her friends poets and writers: Jean-François Lyotard, Pierre Bourgeade, Michel Bittern or Claude Louis-Combet.
He collaborated in several reviews, in particular Artitudes international, Opus International, Silec, Obliques.
