Its life, its work

Henri Laurens , born the February 18th 1885 with Paris and dead the May 5th 1954 in this same city, it was a Sculpteur, painter and draftsman cubist.

Tested by a osseous Tuberculosis which touches it at 17 years, it is made cut down by a leg seven years later. Initially stone mason, he becomes craftsman sculptor. In 1899, it studies the drawing where it shows its influence on Auguste Rodin. Later, it was attracted by the group of the artists with Montparnasse, and starting from 1911, it starts to carve in the style cubist, like that monumental done in 1952 for the university of Caracas, Venezuela. He was the friend of Juan Gris and Picasso, which he influenced, as Braque which was for him like a brother.

He painted very little but left very many drawings, carved to paper, being played of two dimensions by the gouache, joining and contrast full-vacuum, reinventing trompe-l'oeil by some dotted lines.

Its skin was buried with the Cimetière of Montparnasse and its tomb is decorated by one with its massive works, the Pain .

Today, the general-purpose college of Saint-Vallier (Drome) bears his name.
