Henri Laoust

Henri Laoust , born with the Fresnes-on-Scheldt on April 1st 1905 and died in Bad tempers the November 12th 1983, is a French orientalist, specialized in the Moslem canonical Droit.

== Henri Laoust makes his secondary studies with the Gouraud college with Rabat, where his/her father is director of the Institute of the high Moroccan studies, then with the Louis-the-Large Lycée with Paris. Received with the National university of the street of Ulm, incorporated of Arabic, he teaches initially with Constantine, then becomes general secretary, then directing of the French Institut of Arab studies of Damas (1937-1941). He is then professor at the university of Lyon (1946-1956), with the Collège de France of 1956 to 1976 (pulpit of Moslem sociology). He is elected member of the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1974.

This modest scholar, which did not exclude, sometimes, a outspokenness, was moreover member of the Arab academies of Cairo and Damas.
