Henri Laborit , born with Hanoï then in Indo-China the November 21st 1914 and deceased the May 18th 1995, is a Biologiste, a Philosophe of the animal behavior and especially of the human Comportement.
Henri Laborit directed the Revue agressology of 1958 to 1983.
He showed all his life curious spirit and in addition nonconformist (unexpected defense of the re-examined Planet against the attacks of the rationalist Union in the Années 1960, discrete recall of the massacres of the Vendée in “ My uncle d' Amérique ” in 1980, participation in the steering committee of the Institute of general Sémantique of Lakeville). One did not see it nevertheless being let label under some movement that it is.
In 1969, the students in town planning of the Université of Vincennes, which is being created, invite it to animate a unit of value biology and town planning (until 1974)
It is with its book the New grid (1974) that it made known its ideas on behavioral biology with the general public in the favorable context post-68.
Its work on conditioning is at the base of the film My uncle d' Amérique of Alain Resnais in 1980.
It makes watch of the scientific experiment on rats which led it to develop the concept of Inhibition of the action (title of the one of its books to see low) and which explains under which conditions of stress of the isolated rats somatisent (ulcers).
One owes in Laborit the introduction (1952) of the Chlorpromazine (the first Neuroleptique, whose trade name is Largactil) into the treatment of the Schizophrénie. Front, it had introduced the induced hypothermia (1951).
It gave its true importance to the Névroglie or together of cells gliales, and with the free radical , well before their irruption in the press-radio-TV and even in the scientific press. It was also the first to synthesize GHB at the beginning of the Années 1960.
Rewarded by the Price Albert Lasker for the medical research in 1957, medal-holder of O.M.S in 1972, it accepted the Prix Anokhin (the USSR) in 1981. It did not have the Nobel Prize (it was nominated) (According to Pierre HUGUENARD, Professor emeritus at the Medical college of the University of Paris XII (Sic) " because of the hostility of civil microcosm medical French, and more precisely Parisian " ) because it did not form part of the scientific elite: he was not member of a large Institute nor of a great Research center.
A hospital of Poitiers bears its name. He is the grandfather of the actress Emmanuelle Laborit.
As of the first page of its book “Inhibition of the action” (Masson, Paris, 1980), Professor Henri Laborit (1914-1995) evokes the PBD (biological program of survival): “ When the action to solve a conflict is impossible, the inhibition of the action still allows survival since it avoids sometimes the destruction, entropic levelling with the environment. It is in the sense that the “disease” quotation marks are of Laborit in all its forms can be regarded as a less evil, like a deferment given to the organization before disappearing. ” (...) “ the Manicheism which characterizes the majority of the human conduits makes it possible to consider up to now only two conduits with regard to the disease: one consists in acting on the sick organization by being unaware of its environment, the other to act on the environment by believing that will be enough to solve all the organic problems. It would undoubtedly be preferable in certain cases, to treat an ulcer of stomach, to move away the mother-in-law rather for example than to practice a gastrectomy which will not change anything with the environmental factor. " (...) " We are the different ones, i.e. we became with time what others - our parents, the members of our family, our teachers - did us, consciously or not. We thus are always influenced, generally without our knowledge, by the various systems of which we form part. "
" the Man is finally, one can suppose it, the only animal which knows that it must die. Its fights competitive day laborers, her research of the wellbeing through the hierarchical rise, its overpowering work machinal, leave him little time to think of death, with its death. It is damage, because the anguish which results from it is undoubtedly the most powerful motivation with the creativity. Isn't this one indeed a research of comprehension, why and how of the world, and each discovery does not enable us it to tear off a scrap with the shroud of death? This is not as one can include/understand only in his absence that which " gagne" does its life lose it? "
" Beaucoup among us will die thus without never being born with their humanity, having confined their associative systems with the commercial innovation, by covering words the simplistic nudity of their unconscious dominator. "
" Confronted with a test, the man has only three choices: 1) to fight; 2) nothing to make; 3) to flee. "
" the tragedy of the human destiny does not come it from what the man includes/understands that he knows some enough to know that he does not know anything of his destiny, and that he will never know any sufficiently to know if there will be another thing to know. "
" Beyond the narrow vision of the disturbances " psychosomatiques" to which one referred then, it opens the way of the neuro-psycho-immunology, one of the approaches most promising of the human behavior in relation to the molecular and cellular mechanisms. The inhibition of the action can be the factor starting of disorders neuro-psycho-immulogic. The proof is made today interrelationships between macrophages, hormones peptide and regulating of cerebral operation. The three networks which ensure the homeostasis of the body (nervous system, immunizing and hormonal) converge and interpenetrate. Henri Laborit, man total and free in the fragmented universe of the disciplines, will remain in this end of the 20th century like a pioneer of the complex thought and the inspirer of a new direction of the life " Joel de Rosnay (Directing of the Futurology and the Evaluation Quoted of Sciences and Industry - Paris)
" (…) to make an infection or a neoplasic affection, it is not enough to a contact with a microbe or a virus or a chronically undergone local irritant. One focused too much on the microbe, the virus or the cancerogenic poison and not enough on the subject, on his last history and presents, his relationship with his environment. The poisons themselves must undoubtedly have a variable toxicity according to the context and the social status of the individual whom they reach. (...) We Satisfy maintaining to point out that the schizophrenes arrived at the stage of the insanity, isolated from the social context by their madness, are among the populations the least reached by the cancerous affections, infectious and psychosomatic (...) ".
" (...) .il does not have there only the psychic and psychosomatic diseases which are spring of the individual behaviors in social situation (…) , undoubtedly all pathology depends on it. " (...)
" acute reactional pathology with a lesion, itself brutal and sudden, also depends on what it is agreed to call the " terrain" and which appears to us to be the state of tissue metabolic dynamics at the time when it settles. This dynamics itself depends on all the former history of the subject, i.e. of its historical relationship with its environments. ". (…)
" When, few years ago still, a doctor observed at a patient a stiffness of the muscles of the nape of the neck, a cephalgia with obnubilation, coma sometimes, hyperthermia, slowed down pulse, vomiting, it made the diagnosis of syndrome meninx. Let us note that it had taken millenia to join together these disparate signs in beam and to show that they expressed a state of irritation of the meninges. But while being limited to the symptoms by ignorance of the subjacent processes, the therapeutic one was generally limited to prescribe ice on the head and of aspirine. The majority of the patients died. " (…)
" separation between the spirit and the body is undoubtedly one of the concepts most difficult to destroy, because founded on an apparent obviousness. It is him which still distinguishes the philosophical schools, the social sciences of physical sciences, and for example psychiatries Pavlovian and freudienne, i.e. the methods seeking to be based on objective measurements of remarks of those based on an entirely subjective and introspective approach of the human behaviors. It is the barrier which persists between cortico-visceral pathology and psychosomatic pathology. " Henri LABORIT “Inhibition of the action” (Editions Masson Paris & University Presses of Montreal, 1980)
At the conclusion of a conference which Laborit in 1966 gave, a psychiatrist rose to declare, not without emphase, which he saw it like a " bold explorer who, a such Viking, springs without fear on deep water and dangerous of the scientific thought to discovered new rivages". Laborit systematically studies all the big families of molecules acting on the level of the central nervous system. He deplores the abrutissants effects of tranquillizing the such équanil and benzodiazepines which cure of nothing the causes anxiety. .
