Henri Konan Bédié

Aimé Henri Konan Bédié (born the May 5th 1934 with Daoukro, center is country) is old a President of the Ivory Coast of 1993 with 1999.

Biography

Born in country Baoulé, it makes studies at the Teacher training school of Dabou, then at the university of Poitiers. It is then named ambassador in the United States (1961-1966), Minister for Finance (1966-1977), and finally president of the National Assembly (1980-1993). This station is worth to him to take over temporarily the duties until 1995 died of Felix Houphouët-Boigny. He encourages national stability but is shown of political repression and Corruption (see Guillaume Soro). He sets up the concept of ivoirity, according to which a person is of the Ivory Coast only if his/her four grandparent were born in Ivory Coast, which makes it possible to draw aside its opponent Alassane Ouattara.

In 1995, it is elected with 96,44% of the votes, all the other candidates except Francis Wodié (Left of the Ivory Coast the Workers, PIT) having boycotted the election because of the reform of the electoral code.

It is reversed by Robert Guéï with the favor of a Coup d'etat Militaire on December 24th, 1999.

After two years of exile, it returns in Ivory Coast in 2001 to take part in the Forum of national reconciliation.

Beginning 2006, it is invested by PDCI-RDA to be candidate with the presidential election. This election is deferred on several occasions. Henri Konan Bédié announced the 20 May 2007 during a maintenance in Afp which he would be candidate with the presidential election envisaged at the beginning of 2008.

He is currently member of right of the Constitutional council of Ivory Coast.
