Henri Kietlicz

Henri Kietlicz (v. 1150 - March 22nd 1219) (in Polish Henryk Kietlicz ) of Gniezno of 1199 with is archbishop 1219. He is the principal craftsman of the changes which returned the Polish Église independent of the supervision of the laic authorities .

Henri Kietlicz was born in a Czech family which initially settled in Silesia before being fixed in Large-Poland. He becomes archbishop of Gniezno in 1199.

In 1206, it throws the Anathème on Ladislas III with the Legs Hails, the Duc of Large Poland, which disputes the legitimacy of Lech the White, the duke of Cracow.

Driven out Large Poland by Ladislas III, Henri Kietlicz takes refuge at Henri Ier Bearded the of Silesia. This one accommodates it with open arms. The archbishop Henri Kietlicz asks for the assistance of the Pape Innocent III to recover his archbishop's palace. The pope reacts by confirming the Excommunication of Ladislas III to the Legs Hails. He also launches a call to the Polish Noblesse so that it helps the archbishop to return in Large Poland.

In 1207, Henri Kietlicz obtains that Lech the White applies the reforms of the pope Innocent III. The following year, Ladislas III with the Legs Hails authorizes the return of the archbishop to Gniezno in exchange of the lifting of the anathema pronounced against him.

The June 9th 1210, at the time of a Synod held with Borzykowa at the same time as an assembly of the Polish dukes, Henryk Kietlicz manages to make confirm the many privileges obtained by the Church with Łęczyca in 1180. It obtains the privilege of immunity for the Church (it will be able to have its own courts). All these privileges are recognized by Lech the White, Conrad Ier de Mazovie and Ladislas Odonic. In exchange, Kietlicz obtains from the pope that this one cancels its bubble legitimating the capacity of Mieszko IV Legs Frays which had seized the throne of Cracow by the force.

Henryk Kietlicz takes part with others bishop S Polish in the Concile of Lateran IV. The pope Innocent III charges it with a mission of Christianisation of the Prussia.

With Wolbórz in 1215, at the time of a meeting with Lech the White, Conrad Ier de Mazovie, Ladislas Odonic and Casimir Ier d' Opole, the archbishop Henri Kietlicz successful to obtain new privileges for the Church which becomes a true State in the State.

The ambitious archbishop, intervening more and more in the businesses of the State, brings together against him all the Polish dukes. Its capacity parallel to collapses the political defeats of its new guard, the pope Honore III.

Henryk Kietlicz dies out the March 22nd 1219. At that time territorial dismemberment feudal, it was the only one to symbolize the unit of the Polish nation. As an archbishop, it concluded the Gregorian reforms in Poland. It devoted some Polish bishops of which Vincent de Kadłubek, the bishop of Cracow. It is buried in the cathedral of Gniezno.
