Henri Julien

Henri Julien (Quebec, May 14th 1852 - Montreal, September 17th 1908) was a Caricaturiste and a painter Québécois. Pioneer in the discipline of the caricature, its drawings were published with the Canada and in France.
Biography
From 1860 to 1867, he studies the Dessin. In 1869, he becomes apprentice-engraver for small a Imprimerie, followed by an employment for another printing works, Desbarats, of 1869 to 1888.In 1874, it accompanies a horse forwarding by the royal Gendarmerie of Canada. This one carries out it to the buttresses of the Rocky Mountains. Its drawings will be published in L Public opinion for seven months, that is to say from July 30th, 1874 to February 25th, 1875. It is for this period that its drawing gains in maturity and that it becomes trustful in itself, at the point to become an important caricaturist of the time.
From 1886 with its death, he works as draftsman as a chief of the late newspaper Montreal Daily Star . He excelled in the instantaneous drawings, being able to draw of memory of the scenes which had been held in the courts. For this period, it illustrates various works, of which Légendes of the North-West , written by the abbot Georges Dugast.
It produced for several newspapers, the such illustrated Monde of Paris which published several of its drafts, noticed at the time.
It is from 1900 that Julien devotes himself to the watercolour. It painted several paintings, whose most famous the Hunting Gallery is which represents an old Québécois legend of the even name.
One owes him much of paintings representing the habits of Quebec at his time, such as Shouted, Harvests, the Hays and the Sowing. It leaves behind him a considerable work.
One pays homage to him on May 29th, 1911 by naming a street on his behalf, the Henri-Julien Avenue with Montreal.
