Henri Jeanson

Henri Jeanson , (March 6th 1900, Paris - November 6th 1970, Équemauville), writer, journalist, dialogist. Satrap of the College of' Pataphysique.

Journalist before war

He is born the March 6th 1900, with Paris, of a father Instituteur. In 1917, after various small trades (pacifist future, it thus occupies a role of figuration of soldier in a chart " carries-bonheur" for a merchant of postcards…).

He becomes journalist with the newspaper “ the Battle ”, body of the CGT. Noticed for its frightening feather, he is journalist in the Twenties and intervenes like deferring, interviewing or critic film, and is characterized by virulence from his style and a taste pronounced for the polemic.

He works in various newspapers of which the “ Journal of the people ”, the “ Men of the moment ”, the “ Canard connected ”, where it defends the integral Pacifisme.

In April 1932, it is pointed out by its famous apostrophe with the prefect of police Jean Chiappe appeared in the Men of the moment of Henri Fabre. The title was Little cop Quiappe, prefect on talonnettes". It added the following postscript to it: When I moved, I sent to Mr. Quiappe the following chart: Henri Jeanson, 14, rue de la Fontaine, Auteuil 33-12. And I added with my hand on this chart: For all information to address itself to the caretaker. If, according to his creditable practice, Mr. Quiappe would like, either to put coconut in my pockets, or to compromise me in I am unaware of which business, it knows where to find me: 14, rue La Fontaine, 2nd stage on the right. The bell functions .

He resigns of the Canard connected in 1937, by solidarity with Jean Galtier-Boissière.

He is condemned in July 1939 to 18 months of prison to have published in SIA (International solidarity Antifascist), the founded periodical in November 1938 by Louis Lecoin, an article in which he congratulated Grynspan Herdsel Feibel for his attack against Von Rath, adviser with the embassy from Germany to Paris. He is stopped, in November 1939, whereas he already joined his regiment with Meaux, for published articles in March and August 1939 and to have signed the leaflet of Louis Lecoin immediate Paix ”. The December 20th 1939, it is condemned by a military tribunal to 5 years of prison for “ provocation of soldiers to disobedience ”.

Course during the Second world war

Jeanson was in prison for its pacifist writings, and this a few days before the entry of the German with Paris. Its release from prison is obtained by César Campinchi, lawyer and minister. It did not leave Paris and came into contact with an agent of the markets, M.Capgras, and was seen entrusting in August 1940, the drafting as a chief of Aujourd'hui, an independent newspaper “ ”. The first number left the September 10th 1940. In November 1940, the German authorities summoned the polemist to publicly give an opinion against the Jews and in favor of the policy of collaboration with the French State. Henri Jeanson resigned, then turned over in prison. He was released a few months then following the intervention of his friend Gaston Bergery, néoradical passed to the Collaboration by ultra-pacifism. Prohibited from now on of press and cinema, he works with the black, writing film dialogs which he does not sign. With Pierre Bénard, it takes part in the development of clandestine sheets, and misses being once again stopped in 1942. It will remain in clandestinity until the Libération.

This course illustrates contradictions and compromisings of the integral Pacifisme: the will to lead to an agreement with Germany to avoid the war, could change, after the defeat in desire of “ correct coexistence ”, even in offer of service. The newspaper Aujourd'hui was far from being innocent in its hunting for the persons in charge of the defeat, in the recourse to the myth of the blow of purifying brush, in its anglophobia. It entered in resonance with the speech of the Pétain marshal, and in the direction of German propaganda.

Journalist after war

In spite of its course during the war, it found the drafting of the Canard connected with the Release. It takes again its journalistic profession then (with the “Crapouillot”, with the “Canard connected”, with “Combat”, “the Dawn”). It leaves the drafting of the Canard connected in April 1947, following an article cut on the subject “Aragon, Elsa Triolet, Maurice Thorez and the Communistes”. This departure was the occasion of glares, and settlings of score in the press. It returned then to the newspaper, and published articles in the Duck connected (where it signed its philippic pseudonym d'" Huguette ex-Microphone “) until in 1970. It takes part in “ Cinémonde ”. Of 1967 with 1970, it is critical of television for the daily newspaper the Dawn.

It was dreaded in the world of arts and of the policy for its formulas assassinate. It also carried out, ahead guard, of large political combats (pacifism, anticolonialism, defense of freedom of expression), while remaining always a free man.

Henri Jeanson gave up the cinema in 1965 to devote itself to polemical journalism and the drafting of his memories, which will be published under the title 70 Years of adolescence , a few months after his death. He died in Équemauville, close to Honfleur (Calvados) the November 6th 1970.
