Henri 1st of Limbourg , born towards 1059, died towards 1119, is count de Limbourg and of Arlon of 1082 with 1119 and duke of Low-Lotharingie of 1101 with 1106. He is the son of Waléran {{Ier}}, count d' Arlon and of Limbourg, and Jutte of Low-Lotharingie.
He is opposed to Egilbert, archbishop of Truces in connection with although Adèle, a former countess of Arlon, had given to the church taken again Truces then. Egilbert, the nap to restore these goods, excommunicates it, but the count does not yield. Egilbert is obliged to take the weapons and a serious defeat inflicts to him.
As a solicitor of the abbey of Saint-Trond, charges that he inherited his father, he intervenes in the internal businesses of this abbey. Hermann, the abbot named by the bishop of Metz Poppon and supported by Godefroy de Bouillon and Henri de Limbourg, dissatisfied the emperor, which puts the abbey under the authority of the count de Looz Arnoul. This one comes to Saint-Trond and force Godefroy and Henri to be withdrawn.
A little later several large feudal of the area leaves in crusade, led by Godefroy de Bouillon. That increases the authority of Henri de Limbourg on the territory of what was to become Belgium, and from which he misuses with the detriment of several abbeys. The emperor Henri {{IV}} must intervene to put an end to its intrigues and takes Limbourg in June 1101. After having made his tender, Henri de Limbourg returns in grace, and receives the duchy of Low-Lotharingie, become vacant since the departure of Godefroy de Bouillon in Croisade. In connection with this duchy, it was in competition with Godefroy of Leuwen.
It is not shown any inevitably grateful, because it hesitates to take party and to change camp at the time of the quarrels which oppose the emperor Henri V to his son, the future Henri {{V}}. It ends however up joining definitively in Henri V.
In 1106, Henri V dies, and his/her son attacks the partisans of his father. Its fields are devastated, Limbourg east took and Henri is locked up in Hildesheim. The duchy is withdrawn to him to be to entrust to Godefroy of Leuwen. Henri escapes and tries to take again Low Lotharingie, but fails, and must make peace with Henri and Godefroy. However, it preserves the ducal title and qualifies duke of Limbourg .
Thereafter, it takes part in revolts against the emperor at the sides of Lothaire of Saxony, and fights in Andernach (1114) and Welphesholt (February 11th, 1115), where each time the emperor is overcome.
