Henri Ier de Champagne

Henri 1st the Liberal (December 1127 † March 16th, 1181 with Troyes), count de Champagne and of Brie of 1152 to 1181, is the oldest son of the count Thibaud {{II}} Large the and of Mathilde de Carinthie.

Married in 1164 with Marie de France (1145 † 1198), girl of Louis {{VII}} '' the young person '' king de France and of Aliénor of Aquitaine is father of:

  • Henri {{II}} (1166 † 1197), Champagne Count Palatine, then king de Jérusalem
  • Marie (1174 † 1204), married in 1186 with Baudouin {{IX}}, count de Flandre and of Hainaut, then Latin emperor of Constantinople († 1206)
  • Thibaut {{III}} (1179 † 1201), count de Champagne
  • Scholastique († 1219), married to Guillaume {{IV}}, count de Mâcon († 1226)

It takes the cross in 1146 but leaves in crusade only one year later. It is illustrated with the battle of the Meander where Turkish are beaten. Returned to France, it encounters difficulties with its immediate neighbors. In 1164 it founds the hopisce Sézanne. It takes again the cross in 1179.
