Henri II of the Brabant

Henri II of the Brabant , born in 1207, died in Leuwen the 1248, was duke of the Brabant of 1235 with 1248. It was wire of Henri Ier, duke of the Brabant, and Matilde of Boulogne.

Hardly born, it was promised in marriage to a girl of Philippe de Souabe, king of the Romans and candidate of Othon IV of Brunswick. His/her father on several occasions gave it as an hostage, and it appears in the charters and diplomas at the sides of his father starting from 1221. It was armed knight in 1226. In 1228, it was announced in a campaign against the archbishop of Cologne.

It succeeds his father in 1235. In 1237, it was implied in the war between the bishop of Liege and the family of Limburg, then in the fights of influence which were déchénèrent with dead of the bishop for the election of his successor. The war finished only in 1243. After this date, it did not intervene any more in the businesses of the Empire, being devoted to the management of its duchy.

He married in first weddings before 1215 Marie de Hohenstaufen (1201 † 1235), girl of Philippe de Souabe, king of the Romans and Irene Ange. They had:

Marguerite († 1277), abbess of Herzogenthal

Widower, it remarie about 1240 in Sophie de Thuringia (1224 † 1275), girl of Louis IV, landgrave of Thuringe, and Elisabeth of Hungary. They had:

Henri Ier (1244 † 1308), landgrave of Hesse, stem of the House of Hesse.
Elisabeth (1243 † 1261), married in 1254 with Albert Ier (1236 † 1279), duke of Brunswick
