He was intended for a religious career and became archbishop of Rheims at the fifteen years age. Death, of his/her father and his older brother at one year of interval, forced it to be made raise of its wishes to become duke of Own way.

He married in first weddings in 1639 his cousin Anne-Marie de Gonzague (1616 † 1684), girl of Charles I {{er}} of Gonzague, duke of Mantoue, and Catherine of Lorraine. He separated in 1641 and Henri remaria the November 11th 1641 with Honorine de Glymes de Berghe († 1679). They separated in 1643 and Henri did not have any child of his two marriages.

Its goods were then confiscated. Forgiven, it returned to France in 1643 and recovered Guise, while his/her mother received Joinville.

Joining again with the family claims on the Kingdom of Naples, it took part in the revolt of Masaniello in 1647. It then controls the royal République of Naples , under French protectorate, but the lack of support of Mazarin alienates the Neapolitan ones to him. The Spaniards counter-attack, destroy the republic and make captive Henri, who will remain held in Spain of 1648 with 1652. It will try one second countryside against Naples in 1654, but will fail, partly because of an English fleet directed by Robert Blake and present on the spot.

It will settle then in Paris and will become large Chambellan of Louis XIV.

According to the historian Camille Bartoli, Henri II of Own way is the Homme with the most plausible the iron mask.
