Henri Gadeau de Kerville

Henri Gadeau de Kerville (Rouen, 1858 - Bagnères-with-Luchon, 1940) is a zoologist, Botaniste and Archéologue French.

Nature occupied the life of Gadeau de Kerville as of its more young age: it was only fifteen years old when it discovered a new species of Coléoptère S during forwardings in the hills and wood of the surroundings of its birthplace. This discovery will be the occasion of its first scientific publication. It enters to the Company of the friends of the natural science of Rouen at the twenty years age. He will be secretary, president and Mécène. He will be also one of the founding members and the president of the Photo-club rouennais of 1891 with 1892.

It creates a laboratory of experimental speleobiology to Saint-Paër (Seine-Maritime).

The thousands of samples and photographs brought back of its forwardings by this untiring traveller come to enrich the Muséum S by Paris, London, Elbeuf and Rouen. The results of its voyages were the subject of many scientific publications.

It is named officer of the agricultural Mérite in 1902 and knight of the Légion of honor in 1913. It is also Officier of the State education and large-officer of the Nichan Iftikhar. A street and a place of Rouen bear its name.

Gadeau de Kerville creates two prices and which bears its name today:
