Henri Filhol

Antoine Pierre Henri Filhol is a paleontologist, speleologist and a zoologist French, born the May 11th 1843 with Toulouse and dead the April 28th 1902 with Paris.

He is the son of Edouard Filhol (1814-1883), conservative of the natural history museum of Toulouse.

Filhol obtained its title of doctor of medicine in 1873 with a thesis entitled: Of the recurring sensitivity in the hand. He was also science Doctor and member of the Academy of Science in 1897; it chaired the zoological Société of France in 1898.

It took part in several forwardings in particular on board the Travailleur (1880, 1881 and 1882) and the Talisman (1883).

In the field of the Speleology, its capital work related to the study of the Phosphorite S of the Quercy. He was also the companion of the first prehistorians who studied the caves of the Ariège (Bédeilhac, Mas of Azil, Massat, Monfort, Herm,…).

Its bibliography was published in the Nature in 1902 (pages 367 to 381) with a portrait.
