Henri Faraud
Henri Faraud (March 17th 1823 - September 26th 1890) was the apostolic first Vicaire of Athabasca-Mackenzie and the titular bishop of Anémour.
Biography
Native of Gigondas in France, it is allowed with the Juniorat Oblats of Marie-Immaculate. Whereas it was still in the Minor orders, it was sent on mission in North America where it accepted its ordination with the priesthood the May 8th 1847.Then, it replaced the Père Laflèche with the Island-with-the-Stick, then it proceeded more to north, establishing the mission of the Lac Athabasca, which was inaugurated the September 8th 1851. The following year, he visited the Big lake of the Slaves, where no mission had never been established, and carried his ministry near the Indians of the Rivière of Peace (1859-1860).
The May 13rd 1862, he becomes the holder of new the apostolic Vicariat of Mackenzie-Arthabasca, but such was its insulation of civilization that it is informed that in July of 1863. It east is devoted bishop the November 30th 1864 by Mgr Joseph Hippolyte Guibert.
Faraud preserves its episcopal title during twenty-five years, showing considerable administrative skills, melting of the missions in territories as far as near to the Arctic Ocean on a side, and close to the rivers to peace and black poplar of another.
In 1863, it goes in Europe to attend the general chapter of the oblats. On its return, it stops with Montreal to work on the impression of the books in Indian languages. Of return to its vicariate, Pie IX appoints him an auxiliary bishop of the name of Isidore Clut.
In 1889, it is one of the fathers of the provincial council of Saint-Boniface. He suffers from a disease of the liver and he dies the September 26th 1890 with Saint-Boniface. He is buried in the crypt of the Cathédrale of Saint-Boniface with Mgr Provencher.
