Henri Dutrait-Crozon

Henri Dutrait-Crozon is the pseudonym of the colonels Frederic Delebecque and Georges Larpent, two militants of the French Action and collaborators of the Revue French Action (which will become the French Action under the direction of Charles Maurras in 1908).

History

The name of Dutrait-Crozon remains attached to the publication of a Précis of the business Dreyfus whose influence was considerable in the mediums Nationaliste S and Antidreyfusard S with the turning of the century.

It is about a work which is presented in the form of a scientific study character as much by its meticulous description of the facts, by its many quotations, its abundant bibliography that by its width (approximately 400 p.) and its analytical index. Answering skilfully the criteria of an academic and didactic work, the Précis is however vast plea antidreyfusard. The facts are directed so as to make feel guilty the defendant, to turn into to Colonel Henry a martyr, to give reason to the defenders of the traditional values and Militaire S and to legitimate the Antisémitisme (in particular by the refutation of monumental the Histoire of the business Dreyfus in 7 volumes of lawyer and journalist Jew Joseph Reinach).

In spite of the exit of the business Dreyfus, i.e. of the demonstration of the innocence of the captain and his rehabilitation, Dutrait-Crozon republish their work on several occasions and continue to them Propagande antidreyfusarde through various publications, not sparing their remarks anti-semites and their personal attacks (in a series of lampoons entitled Appel with the country whose contents will be included in the Précis ). Faithful to the action plan French, Delebecque and Larpent polemical works against the republican institutions will also publish and will join Maurras in If the takeover by force is possible (1910) to discuss the possibility of a Coup d'etat Monarchiste.

As pointed out it Pierre Vidal-Naquet, the Précis seems today a precursory work of the historical Révisionnisme or Négationnisme, according to the term devoted by the historian Henry Rousso. The Rhetoric negationnist and the strategies of diversion of the facts at ideological ends are there already with work. As for the majority of the members of the first generation of the French Action, the attitude of refusal of Dutrait-Crozon is largely resulting from the Ressentiment and the dissatisfaction caused by the failure with several years with militancy antidreyfusist. As soldiers, Delebecque and Larpent were particularly touched by this crisis and their structure supports the trace from there. The edition of 1924, continues the history of the business until including the " there; combat" of the French Action for the " vérité" whose collaborators were to never recognize the innocence of the Dreyfus captain.
