Henri Dutilleux
Henri Dutilleux , born with Angers (Maine-et-Loire) the January 22nd 1916, is a Compositeur French.
Biography
Its pressing vocation, early discovered and intelligently encouraged by attentive parents, makes him first of all follow a traditional formation - piano, theory of harmony and counterpoint - to the Conservatoire of Douai before starting studies of composition near Henri Busser with the Conservatoire of Paris.
It gains in 1938 the First Price of Rome with the Cantate the Ring of the King . Before leaving for the war in 1939, it intensely looks further into the music of of Indy, Stravinski and Roussel. In 1942, Dutilleux takes up for a few months the duties of Chef of chorus of the Opéra of Paris and, in 1944, it is with the service of French Broadcasting where it is responsible for the service of the Musical Illustrations (testing ground for many young people musicians which will become famous). It leaves this work in 1963 to be able to devote itself entirely to the composition. In 1961, it is called by Alfred Cortot as professor of composition to the Teacher training school of Music of Paris then, starting from 1970, it is professor associated with the Academy. National Grand Prix of the Music in 1967 for the whole of its work, Dutilleux counts among the French type-setters most outstanding and most played of the 20th century, in particular by his wife, the pianist Genevieve Joy. Its fame is international.
It obtains in January 2004 the dignity of Grand-croix of the Legion of honor.
Henri Dutilleux received the Prix Ernst von Siemens the January 29th 2005 (at the 89 years age). This price, considered as the “Nobel of the music” rewarded, according to the jury, “one of the large artists of the contemporary French music” whose “organic” production is characterized by its “poetic clearness”. Henri Dutilleux is the third French type-setter (after Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez) honoured by this price, which was allotted the first time, in 1974, with the British Benjamin Britten.
Great-grandson of Constant Dutilleux, painter near to Delacroix, Henri Dutilleux is also a friend of Maurice Boitel with the exposures of which it regularly went.
