Henri Caietan , in Italian Enrico Caetani , born the August 6th 1550 with Sermoneta and dead the December 13rd 1599 with Rome, is a Prélat Italy N which became cardinal in 1585.

It made its studies at the university of Perugia, obtained a doctorate in canon law and Civil law in 1571 and entered at once without the Prélature romaine.
He saw himself allotting the station of Abbé of San Leonardo in the area of the Pouilles by the pope Gregoire XIII (1572-1585) and was named protonotaire apostolic.

The July 29th 1585, it is elected Latin patriarch of Alexandria.
Its first Légat ion was in the diocese of Bologna of August 1585 at October 1587.

Meanwhile, the pope Sixth-Quint named it cardinal the December 18th 1585.
The pope entrusted to him then, as from October 1587, the load of camerlingue of the Holy Roman Church, load which it will preserve until his death in 1599.

Sixth-Quint sent it in France, with the quality of Légat, in 1589, to make elect a catholic king after the death of Henri III. Exceeding its instructions, it animated the civil war, was thrown in the party of the Ligue, meets in the Sixteen, supported with heat the party of the king of Spain and distributed money to the members of a league during the Siège of Paris.
Sixth-Quint, dissatisfied with its control, pointed out it, but this pope had already died when Caietan arrived.

The pope Gregoire XIV (1535-1591), elected in 1590, named it with the head of the congregation for the French businesses and governor of the monastery of Saint Martin's day to Laon in France in April 1591. He took part in the Conclave S of 1591 and 1592.
Clement VIII (1536-1605), elected in 1592 after the 62 days Innocent pontificate of IX, sent it in the capacity as Légat in Poland of April 1596 to June 1597.

Henri Caietan is deceased the December 13rd 1599 with Rome and buried in the church Santa Pudenziana of Rome.
