Geography
History
The origin of the name Henneveux is not known but it could come from the Saxon ones which occupied Bolted it in Ve and 6th century.
Into Saxon, " wado" mean wood " Hannowado" , could mean " The wood of Hanno" The first hard copies come from the charters of Thérouanne where one speaks about:
Haneveu in 1173, Hanevol in 1270, Hanevut and Hanevot at the same time, Haneveu at the end it 13th century to become Henneveux today. The village existed at the time of the Celts, Morins (the maritime ones) occupied the area and had as a capital Therouanne (Tarvenna).
The hamlet of Belbé was called in the Belbecq beginning (of Flemish beke, brook or river) and of the Bel prefix which can come from Belenus, Celtic god.
At the time Roman, a villa was drawn up on the highest plate of the commune. The foundations found towards 1850 revealed a construction which formed a square from 40 to 50 meters on side.
There does not exist any trace of the occupation saxonne in the area at the beginning of the Middle Ages.
With the Middle Ages, one notes the passage of évèque Folquin Saint of Thérouanne who, of passage in the village, would have made spout out a source to be refreshed. Besides this source bears today its name. He became patron saint of the parish.
In the current church, which does not have more than two centuries, one can still see very beautiful baptismal font of the beginning of the 13th century. That does not prove the presence of church built at that time because the evangelists were above all to baptize and one installed baptismal font quite simply.
