Hendrick Thibault

Hendrick Thibault 1604 - † December 25th 1667) was a politician zélandais which took an active part in the institutions of Middelbourg, of the province of Zealand and with the General states (in Dutch Staten-Generaal ) of the United Provinces to the XVII {{E}} century.

Biography

Resulting from a rich person commercial family Flemish, it made its entry in the public office as a alderman ( schepen ) of Middelbourg, then the most influential town of Zealand, in 1633. In 1648 it was elected mayor ( burgemeester ) of the city, challenge which it will take up with six recoveries during his career. It also had to represent Middelbourg in the States of Zealand (provincial) like to the General states like boarder of the aforesaid the province. It is at the origin of a dynasty Patricienne regents zélandais who influenced the provincial political life until the XVIII {{E}} century. It was this faction which supported more readily the Républicains (United Provinces) of Jean de Witt against inclinations of the Orangistes revolving around Guillaume III of Orange-Nassau and of the partisans of the Piétisme of the continued Reformation Calviniste.
