The mésosphère is the layer of the Terrestrial atmosphere ranging between 50 km of altitude, above the Stratosphère and 90 km of altitude. The border with the roadbase is called the Mésopause. In this layer, the temperature decrease with the increase in altitude. It is with its limit higher than the temperatures lowest of the terrestrial atmosphere are found: it can reach 200 Kelvin, that is to say -73 °C.

It is a zone of transition between the Ground and Space. In there penetrating, to go down on Earth, the Meteorite S, satellite S, etc warms up against the few particles of air which they meet and are destroyed before reaching the ground, except for the largest parts. The vessels inhabited, space shuttles, Soyuz capsules, must be protected to be able to pass this layer which will slow down them to reach the ground carefully.

It is in this atmospheric zone that sometimes luminous flashes occur above the Cumulonimbus.

This phenomenon called Sprites whose fugacious demonstration (a few tens of milliseconds) is a source of gamma ray which would be related to electrostatic fields of very low frequencies (ELF and VLF) ranging between 3 Hz with 3 Khz started by the bombardment of the cosmic radiation.
