Helmond

Helmond is a commune of the Netherlands of the province of the Brabant-Septentrional . It is located at the east of the province, on the highway and the way of railroad connecting Eindhoven and Venlo.

The city

The first installations in the area took place around the year 1000. Helmond obtained its privileges of city towards 1232 (see the article City rights in English) and became town of market in 1376. In the center of the city a castle is who was built by Jan III van Berlaer as from 1350. Helmond has several textile industries, which were very active between 1870 and 1930. The factory Vlisco is located near the channel which crosses the city. This one was dug between 1823 and 1826 and bears the name of Zuid-Willemsvaart.

Helmond has a professional team of football which evolves/moves in the second division Dutchwoman: Helmond Sport.
