Hells
the Hells is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.
Geography
The village of the Hells (955m.) is located at 5 km in the North-East of the capital of the district, Saignelégier. The village puts back on a Jurassic high plateau of the Frank-Mountains being in the south of the valley of Doubs and right in the north of Montfaucon.The territory of commune (7.1 km ²) rests partly on the Jurassic high plateau and the slopes of the valley of Doubs. The ground is composed of marshes, pastures, fields and forests. On Begnon , in the west of the communal territory, is the highest point of the commune with its 1022 meters. In north the southern side of the valley of Doubs is, called here Côte of the Herdsman and Côte of Sciet . In 1997 the territory was composed as follows: 2% of habitat, 47% of forest, 50% of agricultural land and a little less than 1% of nonproductive ground.
In addition to the village in itself, the common one counts two more hamlets: Cerniévillers and Patalour which are perched in the coast of Doubs.
The Communes bordering are: Soubey, Montfavergier, Saint-Pitches, Montfaucon, Bémont and Pommerats.
Inhabitants
With 150 inhabitants (at the end of 2006) the Hells belongs to the small communes of the canton of the Jura. In 2000,84.6% of the inhabitants were French-speaking, German-speaking 13.9% and 0.8% english-speaking. Since 1870 (287 inhabitants) the population it is divided by two. In 1900 the commune counted 194 more inhabitants.
Economy
The economic fabric of the Hells is mainly agricultural and forestry. There are in the commune only some rare places of work in another sector that primary education. Many workers are thus the pendular ones. From the past one exploited a Tourbière in the Pâturage of Bleed .
