Hellfest

Hellfest is a extreme Festival of music which took place for the first time in 2006. Part of the organizing team is resulting from the festival Furyfest. The festival lasts three days the last weekend of June and has the role to take place every year in the Pays of the Loire, with Clisson in Brittany. With the image of famous the Open Wacken German Air , it accommodates a very great number of groups primarily with root metal and, to a lesser extent, Punk hardcore.

Spirit of the festival

The festival is in the small town of Clisson. A camp-site is proposed with festival in pre near the scenes. The eclectic programming very leads to many meetings between music lovers underground.

Edition 2007

The organization of the second edition of the festival began as of on December 5th 2006, with a prévente of tickets and programming indicating ten groups. The previous year, the prévente had started only in May. The festival took place from June 22nd to 24th. It was marked by difficult climatic conditions and cancellation at the last minute of the group KoЯn, very discussed.

Comeback Kid and Parkway Drive was cancelled. Mayhem also was cancelled but was replaced by Enslaved. Lamb off God was present but could not play because of a technical failure. Three of the four emergent groups are known: 7th Nemesis, Zubrowska, Klone.

Approximately eighty-five groups play on three scenes. The two principal scenes do not play simultaneously.

Edition 2008

Some information was revealed as for this edition. Firstly, it will take place well, thanks to the success of the edition 2007, which was the year of the last chance taking into account the deficit of the edition 2006. For the occasion, Hellfest joined Solomon Hazot, producer French of Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer. The festival will take place June 21st, 22nd and 23rd. The first advertisements of group and the setting on sale of ticket will take place on December 1st. Confirmed groups: Anathema, Anaal Nathrakh, Angra, At The Spoil, Benighted, Born From Pain, Carcass, Cult Of Luna, Eluveitie, Forbidden, Ghost Brigade, Legion Off The Damned, Meshuggah, Ministry, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Septic Flesh, Shining, Sick Of It All, Sonata Arctica, Testament, The Old Dead Tree.

Extract of an interview of Ben (Benjamin Barbaud) :

I have the impression that since Fury Fest took importance one witnesses an renewed interest for the extreme scenes (death, hardcore, black…) on behalf of amateurs at the less extreme metal base. Do you find that Fury (and from now on Hellfest) allow an opening towards these musics difficult of access (of those which go to the fest but also from all the people reading the infos on this festival)?

I think that we take part indeed in all that as well as the many activists who were décarcassent to make groups, to organize show, to make a fanzine, etc

I would not go until saying that the scene grew bigger but a new generation explodes and I am glad to see that in a capitalist world, many young people still take risks right by passion and devotion, this generation dissociates other young people because they act by the means of the music and do not make only consume it…

Of course that has its limits and one should not confuse activism with sectarisation because that will do all foirer, it is just necessary to continue each one on its scale and according to its desires to show that these musics are more than that! For much of people the music remains a master key time like another, their daily concern are much more important, but for we who like that deeply it is different, that releases an energy and a motivation which you will not find at the others, it is necessary thus to cultivate this difference by tightening the elbows and by accepting everyone, it is at this price that we will have a bright future!
