Hellebore

Varaire is a common French, located in the department of the Lot and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

History

The southern limit of the commune was formed by a very old way called “Cami Gasco”. It was the Roman Voie which connected Caylus to Cahors, when the two cities traded between them.

As of the 13th century, a hospital with a church, known under the name of Saint-Jacques-in-Peyronèse (or of Peyrounasse) accommodated the pilgrims; still today at the edge of the Roman way, one finds a cross on a small low wall which marks the site of it and which the villagers call the cross of Pétronille.

In 1561, existed still two inns where could stop the travellers.

Same time, remains in the village a tower, vestige of the castle, and the communal laundrette with dimensions really seigneuriales because it was the fish pond.
