Hellboy

Hellboy is a character created by Mike Mignola which were the object several mini-series of American Cartoon published by Dark Horse Comics with the the United States and by Delcourt in France (which succeeds Dark Horse France).

History

Hellboy is a demon called upon in 1944 by Raspoutine, which worked then on behalf of the Nazis. The latter intended to use the creature to change the exit of the Second world war, but the invocation did not proceed as envisaged, and Hellboy finally was collected and raised by the American army. Become adult, it integrated an specialized agency in the fight against the threats paranormales, BPRD.

It is helped in its investigations by Liz Sherman which have talents of pyrokinesist, and Abe (Abraham) Sapien, a creature amphibienne.

Progressively of the episodes, casting will pack with new allies like Roger the homoncule or Lobster Johnson.

But one day, Hellboy learns that the BPRD had placed a bomb in Roger, if. Particularly gone up against the BPRD, it decides to resign. The team made up of Abe Sapiens, of Liz Sherman and Roger will continue to act, with a novel member, Johann Kraus.

Characters

  • Liz Sherman : Born in Kansas City, on April 15th, 1962, Liz was a perfectly normal child… Until its 11 years, age where its pyrokinetic capacities started to be declared. The fire of with its capacities took the life of its family - her parents and his brother and destroyed part of the city. Total of the victims: 32, including 3 firemen. Its file declares that its last not controlled demonstration goes back to July 4th, 1984. It is there currently agent of ground and tries to be put up to the changes carried out in the team - in particular the nomination with the Daimio Captain as a leader. Recently, its capacity was increased considerably by a mysterious object, enabling him to overcome Katha-Hem.

  • Abe (Abraham) Sapien : He was discovered in a sealed room, under a hospital of Washington. All indicates that it would have had a former existence which goes back to the American Civil War before becoming the Humanoïde Amphibian that we know.

  • Roger the homoncule : It is a homoncule, a made being of grass and human blood. Discovered in the laboratory of a alchemist in Romania, Roger is brought back to the life thanks to the capacity pyrokinetic of Liz Sherman (see In the name of the devil ).

  • Lobster Johnson : Appeared for the first time in Hellboy: Conqueror WORM #1 , Lobster Johnson, Johnson the Lobster in French, was made known during the Second world war, in pulps (American popular newspapers), combatant of the Nazis or monsters supernatural. It was the object of B films but, although considered as a fictitious character, met Hellboy indeed, in the castle of Hunte, that it kept years since. First of all questioning its existence, letting find a chart raising its logo (a lobster grip) on which " was written; Fiction?   • Kate Corrigan : Kate Corrigan works for the office for research paranormale and defense. It was professor of history at the university of New York (specializing in the folklore) before joining BPRD in 1984 as an adviser. She wrote sixteen books on the folklore and the occult history, including the confessions of Isobel Gowdie. Kate prefers the field work, although it usually remains apart from the direct action. Its first mission of ground takes place in May 1994. She and Hellboy study the massacres of mass in the European small village of Griart (alias St Auguste). Kate thinks that the village must be St Auguste and that the massacres are carried out by wolves-garous. She also sees its first phantom on this mission. In 1995, Kate is promoted director of the actions of ground, a station previously occupied by professor Trevor Bruttenholm and Dr. Tom Manning. It is one of heroins of the cartoon BPRD .

  • Johann Kraus : Johann Kraus was a German medium. Whereas its spirit had left its body during a fright, a catastrophe paranormale occurred, and destroyed, among so many others, its body. When the spirit of Johann returned, its body was destroyed. It however succeeds in not finishing dispersed in the air, and BPRD manufactured an artificial envelope to him. Johann Kraus makes from now on team with Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien and Roger the Homoncule. It can give again life with the spirit of dead beings so that they tell him what they saw.

  • Dr. Tom Manning : Dr. Tom Manning is director of the office of research paranormale and defense. In the film Hellboy , he hates Hellboy (what is not the case in the books) until this one saves the life to him. He is interpreted there by the actor Jeffrey Tambor. It is the current director of BPRD.

Among the obvious influences of Mike Mignola for Hellboy, one can quote Howard Philips Lovecraft, Jack Kirby or Edgar Allan Poe.

Adaptations

The filmed series increased of two cartoon films, " Sword off Storm" and " Blood and Iron" of Tad Stone with the collaboration of Mike Mignola. The characters take again the voices of the actors of film.
