Helge Meeuw

Helge Meeuw (° Wiesbaden, the August 29th 1984), is a German swimmer , specialist in the stroke butterfly and Dos-crawlé.

Biography

His/her parents Folkert Meeuw and Jutta Weber, also excellent swimmers, took part, in others, with the Olympic Games of summer of 1968 and 1972 (for his/her father), of 1972 and 1976 (for his/her mother).

He lived with Windhoek in Namibia of 1985 to 1989. He continues his secondary studies with the Gymnasium of Wiesbaden and obtains his baccalaureat in 2004.

He carries out his international beginnings in competition with the Championnats of the world 2003 with Barcelona where he aligns himself in the races of the 200 m back and 200 m brew, without however reaching the final. After these championships, it decides to be devoted more particularly to the discipline of the stroke butterfly.

He is German champion of the 200 m butterfly in 2004 and from the 100 m butterfly in 2005 then, in these same races at the time of the Olympic Games of summer of 2004 with Athens, he is eliminated in semi-finals.

In 2006 with Berlin, with the championships of Germany, it gains the title of the 50,100 and 200 m back, 100 and 200 m butterfly. These five victories, a first in the history of German swimming, will be worth the nickname of Général to him five stars .

It reaches finally a final of the Championships of the world, that of the 200 m butterfly to Montreal in 2005, but it finishes only in the 7th place.

He is champion of Europe of the 50 m back in 2006 with Budapest; holder of the record of Europe of the 100 and 200 m back, it is the cofavori of these two races of the championships of Europe but it disappoints while finishing, respectively, only 7th and 5th.
