Helene Marie Filipino of Chappotin de Neuville

Happy the Helene Marie Filipino of Chappotin de Neuville (entered in religion under the name of Marie of Passion; Nantes, May 21st, 1839 - Sanremo, November 15th, 1904) is a French nun, founder in 1877 of the congregation of the Franciscaines missionaries of Marie. She was béatifiée by the pope Jean Paul II in 2002.

Biography

Helene de Chappotin was born in a catholic family and from Breton minor nobility.

She presents herself in 1860 to 21 years at the Clarisses like postulating, with the assent of the bishop of Nantes. “I soothsayers girl of Francois, Saint say it, and did not cease being it. ”. However, after a disease it must leave the monastery and turns over in its family. When its re-establishment is complete, she prefers to choose a congregation directed towards the working life, and its confessor directs it towards the Société of Marie Réparatrice. August 15th, 1864 it takes the religious name of Marie of Passion and begins her noviciate.

In 1865, still beginner, it is sent on mission in India, in the apostolic vicariate of Maduré, entrusted to the Society of Jesus, where it pronounces its wishes. In 1867 she is elected higher provincial there of three convents than twenty-eight years. In 1874, with a group of sisters, it founds a house in the apostolic vicariate of Coimbatore, assisted by the fathers of the Société for the Foreign missions of Paris.

Following internal dissensions in the congregation, the sisters of the vicariate of Coimbatore end up constituting an autonomous community with Ootacamund.

The pope Pie IX regularized the situation of the nuns secessionists while allowing Marie of Passion to found a new congregation specifically intended for the Mission, whose nuns will take the name of Sœurs Missionaries of Marie. For this congregation, it founds a noviciate with Saint-Brieuc, in Brittany, where the institution takes its first steps.

The institution being stabilized, the the Holy See approved the constitutions on January 6th, 1877 in the Decretum laudis , and pronounces of them its affiliation with the Ordre of the minor brothers.

In March 1883, because of strong oppositions, Marie of Passion is relieved of her function of Higher of the Institute. But following the investigation ordered by Leon XIII, his innocence is fully recognized and she is re-elected in the chapter of the following year.

Mère Marie of Passion dies in San Remo, where it had been withdrawn following a disease, in 1904, leaving 2069 sisters in 86 communities present in 24 countries.

Canonization

Its cause of canonization was opened in San Remo in 1918. June 28th, 1999, the pope Jean-Paul II promulgates the decree recognizing the heroicity of his virtue and declaring it worthy. It was béatifiée on October 20th, 2002 during a ceremony chaired by the pope Jean-Paul II, celebrated in the Basilique Saint-Pierre of Rome.

The liturgy the festival on November 15th, goes back to its death.
