Helene Cixous

Helene Cixous , born the June 5th 1937 with Oran in Algeria of a mother Ashkénaze and a father Sépharade, is a feminist French. Professeure, écrivaine, Poet, dramatic auteure, Philosopher, critical arts person and rhetorician, it was made known in France as essay writer with the exile of James Joyce or the art of the replacement (Grasset, 1968) then, the following year, as novelist with Dedans (Grasset, 1969), an autobiographical novel which obtained the Prix Médicis. It is one of carrying the idea of female writing.

Biography

It obtains the aggregation of English in 1959 and a Doctorat in letters in 1968. It is at this period that it is interested in the British literature and that it writes a test on James Joyce. It belongs to the team of creation of the Université of Paris VIII, there obtains a station of professeure and takes part in the creation of the Center on the studies of the women, the first of this kind in Europe. In 1969, it founds the review Poétique , in collaboration with Tzvetan Todorov and Gerard Genette.
