Heinrich Carl Haussknecht
Heinrich Carl Haussknecht is a Pharmacien and a German Botaniste , born in 1838 with Bennungen in Saxony-Anhalt and died in 1903 with Weimar.
After its studies of Pharmacy, it gives lessons particular to Weimar. It is also devoted to the study of the Flore of Thuringe and of the Lower Saxony. Between 1864 and 1869, it travels in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, the collected specimens thus enriching its Herbier. In 1885, it herborizes in Greece.
Haussknecht is interested particularly in the Epilobium of Onagraceae and a monograph in to them 1884 devotes: Monograph der Gattung Epilobium Haussk (Gustav Fischer Verlag. Iéna).
It bequeaths to the town of Weimar its herbarium which is entrusted to Joseph Friedrich Nicolaus Bornmüller (1862-1948). The Herbarium of Haussknecht is transferred to the university from Iéna in 1949.
